About 50 solar powered gas stations to be built in Dubai

Until 2020, 48 new gas stations powered by solar energy will be opened in Dubai.

The Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) will open 48 new gas stations in Dubai by 2020.

All future Enoc stations in the emirate will operate on solar energy, as the company supports the UAE strategy for switching to renewable and clean sources.

The announcement was made during Wetex 2017. It is also consistent with Dubai’s plan to become a smart and environmentally sustainable city.

“The world is changing, and we are with it,” Saif Al Falasi, Executive Director of Enoc, said on Monday.

“We have a plan for all our new stations, which will be equipped with solar panels. We have completed the projects, and next week we will begin to announce tenders for all new stations. Once this is done, we will return to the old stations,” he said. bearing in mind that existing gas stations need modifications.

Earlier this year, Enoc launched a solar-powered pilot station at Dubai Internet City (DIC). The station is equipped with rooftop solar cells with a maximum power of 120 kilowatts, which is 30 percent more than the average station needs. Surplus energy is transferred back to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) network.

"A commitment to sustainable development fosters innovative thinking that combines work efficiency and profitability from solutions that benefit communities and residents," Al-Falasi said.
