In Dubai, a robot helps doctors replace a knee in a patient

In Dubai, the robotic system helped the surgeon conduct a unique knee replacement operation.

The first successful surgical operation involving a robotic system on the knee joint took place in Dubai on January 8, 2018.

The 47-year-old patient was one of two patients who underwent partial / complete knee replacement using the Navio Surgical System at Mediclinic City Hospital.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Navio helps complete and partial joint replacements to ensure accuracy.

"Using a robotic assistant arm, such as the Navio surgical system, allows the surgeon to accurately plan the operation online, place implants and reduce the risk of errors during the procedure, while reducing the time it takes the patient to recover," said Dr. Ali Al- Belushi, who worked with Dr. Saeed Al-Thani.

A patient who suffered an injury on his left knee while playing soccer more than two years ago was able to move for several hours after a two-hour operation, and is expected to be fully restored.
