Two new stations planned to open in Dubai Metro

Expecting an increase in the number of passengers in the Dubai Metro by 5% each year, RTA experts are considering opening two new stations.

"At the moment, we are conducting a study on whether to open two more stations for passengers - one on the green line, the second, respectively, on the red one," said Ramadan Abdullah, director of railway operations of the Dubai Metro.

Recall that to date, four stations still remain closed in the metro, despite the fact that all work on them was completed quite a long time ago. Two of them under the name “Jedaf” and “Creek” are on the “green” line, two more, “Jebel Ali” and “Energy”, on the “red”. The RTA management decided not to open these stations, since they would probably have used a much smaller number of passengers than required. “We are considering the possibility of opening two stations. The ongoing study will take into account factors such as population and congestion in nearby areas, as well as the expected number of passengers,” Abdullah explained. “In addition, we must develop methods that will help attract passengers to use these stations. "

It should be noted that since the launch of the Dubai Metro in September 2009, the number of passengers using it has increased significantly. The average number of metro passengers per day is up to 300 thousand people. By 2020, RTA plans to open new metro lines, as well as extend existing lines by 24 km and 12 new stations
