Doctors from the UAE operate on children for free

UAE surgeons perform free heart surgery on Indian children as part of a humanitarian program.

As part of the international program of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, doctors from Dubai perform free heart operations on more than 100 Indian children in Mumbai.

The Dubai Health Authority and the Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity Foundation have launched the Nabadat program (heartbeat in Arabic). Under the Nabadat program, children whose parents are not able to pay for the treatment of congenital heart disease receive free medical care.

The Nabadat team includes cardiac surgeons, anesthetists, resuscitators, perfusionists, nurses, etc.

As part of a seven-day program that began on July 7, doctors will operate and examine more than 100 children under the age of 14 years who suffer from congenital heart diseases.

To date, doctors have already successfully performed 32 open-heart surgeries at the Fortis, Mulund, and St. Rachei hospitals in Mumbai.

In addition, specialists diagnose free of charge children not subject to diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Humeid Al Kutami, head of the Dubai Health Department, said: “Nabadat is one of the many humanitarian initiatives carried out by the UAE around the world. Children are our future, and this program gives them the opportunity to lead normal healthy lives.”

Ibrahim Boo Melha, deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the charity foundation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said that the fund fully paid for the drugs and labor of doctors.

Saleh Al Tunaji, UAE Consul General in Mumbai, praised the humanitarian initiative and visited the children who underwent surgery.

Dr. Obaid Al Jassim, head of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at the Dubai Hospital, noted that in some cases, children have more than one congenital disease and require long-term treatment.

According to him, many families have covered more than a thousand kilometers to get to Mumbai and show their children to doctors.
