On November 7, in Dubai, the well-known publishing house SKIRA (Italy) will present the voluminous monograph A LINE TO ETERNITY, dedicated to the work of the academician, Professor Bahodir Jalal. The legendary international publishing house SKIRA with offices in Milan, Rome, Paris and New York is recognized as a synonym for high quality.

The richly illustrated monograph prepared for the 70th anniversary of the artist for the first time thoroughly explores the creative path of the master - his paintings, graphics, monumental paintings are represented by 170 illustrations. The publication of this book was initiated and supported by ANDAKULOVA GALLERY, the authors are Doctor of Art Criticism, Academician N. Akhmedova and Gallery Owner N. Andakulova. The book also has an interview with the artist, prepared by the editor of the publishing house Rosa Maria Falvo.

The master has been busy all year with a new large-scale and in many ways unexpected exhibition project. After all, he is not preparing a report — a retrospective of the artist’s “path traveled” crowned with laurels. Despite his venerable age, Bahodir Jalal is full of the excitement of creative search, he works with new technologies, and boldly abandons his acquired artistic techniques. The name of the anniversary project of the exhibition "... And then it all started!" refers to his philosophical reflections on the artist’s place in the world, on comprehension of secrets and meanings into which any master plunges, starting his journey.

"I am not attached to any tradition. The main thing is love and light ..." - the artist admits. It is open to the dialogue of cultures of the West and the East and in each plastic concept seeks its own individual version. The master, who grew up on Western and Eastern models of art, creates not only on the basis of the modernist game of shapes and colors. Based on the spiritual experience of the East, he begins to explore the abstract foundations of ornamentation, which in its mathematical accuracy and geometric impeccability is an image of absolute perfection associated with God. In many of Jalal’s new works, composition is verified as a structural formula, resembling the play of the girih ornament with its thin lines. Translated from the Arabic language, this geometric grid means “knot”, always unfolding in a certain continuum, referring to the idea of pulling, collecting, connecting everything and everything. But the main thing here is not they, but the game of lines, which in girih is the divine motive of eternity, revealed through the unity of its many faces.

Currently, Jalal continues his search in abstract canvases inspired by oriental calligraphy. These are original improvisations in the spirit of masters - ornamentalists, Uzbek stonemakers. As Jalal himself says about the heritage of the past, this is a kind of lost world, a world of love and beauty, which he constantly opens with interest and embodies in his work. But the most important thing for him is the person who is always on the podium with him.

And in Jalal’s new projects there are many cultural quotes and associations, and his appeal to the heritage of the great European masters and the aesthetics of traditional Uzbek art is akin to the discovery of an unknown world. He, like his great ancestors, has a predilection for the sublime, a rush for harmony, a high ideal with a touch of dramatic experience. Indeed, as a true artist, he is not indifferent to the problems of the modern world, cannot but ignore the theme of increasing human cruelty and indifference, world wars, and injustice in new projects.

“I consider myself an absolutely happy person, because I am able to feel what others cannot. These are not only universal problems, they are also all the wonderful things that exist in our world: love, kindness, sympathy. I am an artist and I I feel many processes more acutely and more deeply. I let everything through myself and it gives me an impulse for creativity. All of 2017 passed for me under the sign of endless creative searches and preparations for the exhibition. For me, the opening of a personal exhibition in Dubai was also an important event, confession and good reviews among art lovers, as well as preparations for the publication of the book "A Line to Eternity" by the Italian publisher Skira. This is an unprecedented phenomenon for the artistic life of Central Asia. At my upcoming exhibition, I want to tell my audience a lot. All my ideas and thoughts will be expressed in completely different, sometimes unexpected forms of art and projects, "says Bahodir Jalal.
